The body image business is worth big bucks.
Each year hundreds of billions of dollars are spent by women around the world, convinced by “solution providers” to buy a product to make us feel better about ourselves.
But the business of body image has nothing at all to do with what your body or mine actually looks like.
Rather, the business actually manipulates how you feel and what you believe about the way your body ‘should’ look.
Those feelings and beliefs affect every part of your life: your relationships, ambitions, family, wealth and career, even what you do every day.
And the messages you get from those solution providers are never-ending – we see thousands of perfect bodies everywhere, advertising everything, subtly telling us that to be successful we need to at least try to meet that standard of beauty.
Of course, only about 1% of the world’s women look like supermodels. And at least some supermodels are also unhappy with how they look!
After years of bombardment, is it any wonder that nearly 94% of western women want to change something about their body, and over 80% actively dislike their body? Is it any wonder that we volunteer to go under the knife? That’s assault, ladies! And we are choosing it!
What’s wrong with this picture?!
What’s going on, that women are now valued in a one-dimensional way only – for their looks.
And I need to say, it’s usually not men who value women that way, it’s we women who think so badly of ourselves that we literally torture ourselves to conform to an image that’s not even real.
Teachers like Annie Meredith say it’s because we women are basically hard-wired to want to connect with others. When we are not able to connect, or feel like we might not be able to connect – we feel anxious, and the solution providers know this. They manipulate us into a state of anxiety, and then sell us the solution to ease the feeling. Little girls, as young as five years old, are being treated for anorexia and bulimia. They are so scared of not fitting in that they are starving themselves.
Except of course in the case of diets, it doesn’t really work. So then they blame us for the failure – we didn’t try hard enough, we did it wrong, we didn’t use our willpower.
Bollocks, is what I say.
If we all just relaxed about the size of our bodies, loved and accepted our bodies for the marvellous miraculous bio-machines they are, and appreciated all the incredible experiences we can have in this bio-suit, and treated our bodies as though we actually did love and appreciate them, rather than beat them into submission, we’d all be gorgeous.
Because attitude is what it’s all about, not the size of your bum or your bra.
Valuing yourself, recognising your worth as a person, seeing your beauty as the people who love you see it, is the only solution. The stuff the solution providers sell can help tweak your feelings, help you present your best self because that’s what you like doing – not because you feel you must!
Having a strong robust view of yourself and your body image is about taking responsibility for what you let into your mind and your emotional body. Eat good health-giving food, read good health-enhancing books and mags, and most of all – clean out the emotional junk you (like the rest of us
) have collected your whole life. EFT is the ideal tool. What are you waiting for? Go visit Gary Craig’s website, or keep reading this site, and subscribe to my newsletter for free tips and scripts.
